FAROS
Pharos meaning lighthouse, obviously takes its name by the old lighthouse that was located right at the entrance of the small harbor.
Today the lighthouse can be seen on the right side as the boat enters the small bay, next to the monastery of the Holy Cross, o lookout spot with wonderful view.
On the Southeast side of Siphnos, Pharos is considered to have the safest harbor of the island. Indeed Pharos was the official harbor till 1883. This fishing village is small and quiet, with a number of beautiful sandy beaches on the nearby coves, like those of Phasolou, Pharos and Glypho.
It is here, at Glypho, where the trail leading to Apokofto and Chrysopigi starts. In the entrance of the Chrysopigi cove, you will see the "stone-boat", a rocky islet with the old monastery of the Virgin Mary of Chrysopigi (1650), patron said of Siphnos.
On the west side of the cove here you can see the remains of the loading dock used to transport the mined metals by boat to Lavrio. On the west side of Pharos beach are the remains of the ancient foundations of the signal towers.
