Conspicious
It is difficult to see where the entrance is to the bay – vessels appear to pop out of a slit in the cliffs. Once near the entrance the buildings of the town and the outer mole can be seen.
By night
Use the light on Ak.Kokkala (Fl(3)12s9M) and on the S side of the entrance (Fl.3s6M). The breakwater is lit on its extremity: Fl.G.1 5s3M.
Dangers
It is advisable to take down your sails before entering the bay as with the meltemi (northerly winds) there are strong gusts from all directions at the entrance and inside the bay.
Mooring
Berth stern-to or bows-to the quay between the two moles or anchor at the head of the bay. The bottom is hard sand and weed with some rocks – fair holding only.
Shelter
Good shelter from the meltemi although there are gusts. With W winds a swell rolls into the bay.
Authorities
Port police and customs.
