Katavati is the village where the great theologian and philosopher Apostolos Makrakis (1830-1905) was born you can see his bust in the square bearing his name in the entrance of the village. He is buried in his family chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary's Annunciation. The Parish church of Saint Georgios is worth a visit, as is also the case with the church of the Virgin Mary with its interesting dome; the latter is also known as the Aggeloktisti , for, according to local lore, it was built and operated by Angels. In the south part of the village there are two other churches worth a visit, the Low-Lying Prophet Elias, and, further south, the Firogia Monastery (ca.16th C.) In the north part of Katavati, the old church of Saint John will also be of interest to visitors.
