Peristeronas
Peristeriona is located at the port of Kamares in Sifnos near Koulouris Square.
The seasonal gallery, established since 1989, exhibits hand-made ceramics created on a pottery lathe, such as:
Household crafts
Folk art
Garden lighting and décor
Peristeriona ceramics are created and decorated with respect to Greek tradition and ceramic art by Simos Atsonios, Maria Atsonios, and George Atsonios, the most multi-prizewinner ceramist in Greece.
The Peristeriona workroom was established in 1959.
Ceramic
Peristeriona ceramics are hand-made on a pottery lathe, while George Atsoniosą family complete carvings and decorations. The ceramics consist of red clay, which is covered with clay slips (mixture of kaolin, argil, and silicic sand), and are decorated with designs and colors inspired by Greek folk tradition.
Peristeriona household crafts are decorated with flowers or stripes in various colorful combinations.
Peristeriona folk art ceramics are hand-carved, therefore giving the feeling of an embossed design, and colored with fire-dye. Designs are traditional, such as ships, birds, flowers, two-headed eagles, and mermaids.
Each Peristeriona ceramic is unique and diverse, thus a true work of art.
Materials used (clay, dye, transparent glaze) are ecological, so there is no hidden danger while using the ceramics.
All ceramics are fired twice in a furnace at 1020 °C.
